We want all our visitors to leave Batsford feeling relaxed, refreshed and reinvigorated by its natural beauty. We’re open every day of the year except Christmas Day and we only charge for entry to the Arboretum itself. Entry to the Café, Garden and Gift Shops and Plant Centre is absolutely free, so even if you don’t have time to visit our beautiful tree collection, you can still enjoy the atmosphere and shopping at Batsford.
Wander through our unique tree and shrub collection, inspired by plantsmen of old and cared for by our passionate and dedicated gardens team who work so hard to make the arboretum a beautiful place to visit. The arboretum is also home to a whole host of flora and fauna, from moths to badgers, rare fungi to interesting birds – it’s a nature-lovers dream.
Whatever your level of gardening experience, our Garden Shop and Plant Centre team are always on hand to offer help and advice about growing – whether in your back garden or on the allotment.
Batsford has a lovely annual programme of events – from outdoor Shakespeare productions under the arboretum tree canopy to gardening themed talks and special events. There are also key times of year when the arboretum itself is alive with interest – and not just the autumn! Visit our events page to find out more.
Fed up with searching for a gift with a difference? Batsford has the answer with a lovely range of unusual and quirky ideas in the Gift Shop as well as a wonderful selection of shabby chic vintage furniture and gifts in the Applestore which is open Wednesday to Sunday inclusive.
Whether you’re looking for a quick coffee before your visit to the arboretum or fancy meeting up with family and friends for a lovely hot lunch or afternoon tea, the Garden Terrace Café offers a lovely relaxed atmosphere inside, with plenty of seating on the wooden deck overlooking the plant centre (when the weather allows!)
Unlike most attractions, dogs are very welcome at Batsford – both inside and out. All we ask is for impeccable behaviour by both our four-legged friends and their owners – and please keep dogs on a short lead at all times.
PLEASE NOTE: Weekends in October can get particularly busy for us and our car parks can fill-up quickly, so please bear with us if you are planning a weekend visit. Alternatively, we would recommend visiting during the week if possible, which is much quieter.
