January

Spring is heralded at Batsford by the first of the early daffodils now showing along Carriage Drive and around the Japanese rest house.  Bright yellow aconites can also be found in patches among the trees.

Hamamelis (Wych Hazel) are now bringing much needed colour to the winter garden with its clusters of bright yellow sweet scented flowers.  Hamamelis is used by water diviners, their twigs being very supple.  Wych – being the old English word for pliant. Hellebores are another hardy plant which we have in abundance.  The delicate shades of their blooms from pure white through butter yellow to pink and darkest purple nod gently in the winter sunshine.

Witch Hazels in beautiful yellows, reds and oranges.

Coral Bark Maples and sweet smelling Mahonias.

Evolving colours and aromas to herald spring.

Open Daily from 10am – 4pm.
